So you did it! You went through labor and gave birth to the pride and joy. Now you are left with after the game. Most women, especially those who have had their first child, is not quite prepared for what to expect after delivery. Some are under the impression that they should return to their prior pregnancy clothes the day they leave the hospital. But most of us the second time moms know what to expect. We know that our bodies can not be the same and need some extra work after birth to return to normal. Especially if you have more than the recommended weight.
The first thing you must remember, is no crazy exercise for at least six weeks after a normal delivery, eight if you had a c-section. Your doctor will give you a list of exercises that you can do during the post partum period. Some of them include walking. You will find that the slow walk gets your body ready for a higher intensity workout. Yoga can be a different exercise your doctor gives you the ok. It gets the blood flowing and it contributes to to reduce stress, which trust me, you may experience a lot when you take your child home. Some of the postures should be avoided, but you will be able to do basic moves. You may even be able to find a post-natal yoga class at a gym. As long as you had a normal birth, you should tell your doctor gives you the ok to do pelvic tilt. C-section moms may have to wait a little longer before they do any abdominal exercises.
Other things to remember is to listen to your body. Do not push yourself or your body during the postpartum period. You are not going to go right back to the exercise routine you may have done before you became pregnant immediately. When you are ready though, there are so many benefits to exercise to lose the baby weight. You will have a whole slew of new physical demands carrying around a baby that just goes to gain weight and get bigger and also download car seats in cars and lift strollers in and out of the tribes. The exercise will help strengthen you for these new demands.
Training or at least keep up with your walk in your post partum period will give you extra energy you'll need, and has been shown to help decrease symptoms on post partum depression or baby blues. The endorphins kick and you will get what is called a natural high.
Remember to stick to a routine when you are working out. You want to try and get at least thirty minutes three days a week. If the weather is warm, you can take your baby out for a walk. Not only is this good exercise, but you can only meet a new mom along.
