One spring day in Central Park

Sometimes I write with no goals, only observations that spill out and occupy themselves in my mind's scrapbook. Sometimes I stumble of these words and they are like a warm sweater on a cold day.

The grass is at its prime in Central Park - Only to have drunk three days left of spring showers. As a fresh haircut, the leaves dancing in the wind, glints of sun, which glitter sprinkled the whole target = "_blank"> Great Lawn.

Overdressed in my late winter parka, I walk among the athletes, tourists, the private secondary school children in the climate oath. Children run a step ahead nannies - but one step behind the mommies on Blackberries.

I go back a little Indian boy and his extended family of four. He is overdressed. The outermost layer is a red quilted vest on top of a sweater to hide at least three layers. There will be a grandmother chases him with a paper, the grandfather fumbles with a digital camera. I saw the older generation try to catch up - with young people, with technology. They go around trying to get knocked down by unpredictability.

My thighs start to heat up while I Yesterday, cooking under the dense carpet of denim in the afternoon sun. I find a place on the inviting grass and unload my lime green spiral-bound notebook Staples. I scribble a little, but is easily distracted.

A father in a leather blazer, pink button down, 1980 Ray Bans a la Tom Cruise, and loafers bring his three-year-old redheaded son a day in the park. Within seconds the boy's shoes are flying through the air. The divorced dad (no ring and wandering eye) breaks out catcher's mine. So cliché. The boy carries a Manning jersey. He throws baseball and it lands three feet from me. I smile and look into my notebook.

An old Hasidic Jew walk on the perimeter of the park. He is even more overdressed than me - black wool hat and coat. My ensemble finished with black hair.

Couple abound in different flavors. The young and seemingly in love plop my ass on the ground and intertwine their appendages to a Twister game for two. Another couple comes in bathing suits and bring a blanket, a cooler and mobile phones equipped for two. He rises, low jeans hanging below the waist. (Is it still fashionable in the late 90's or is it back?) He goes over to chat on the phone. Stretching his arms up in salute to the sun - his boxers ride up about 4 "in front of his jeans. He looked around. This should always be looking around. The girl, meanwhile, takes this opportunity to rotate on her stomach - wiggle her ass in the air and make sure her phone all the same. All to show him - "a bird in hand is worth two in the bush." Either that or - "I have options."

NYC is all about choices. You have the choice - a variety of options. For everything. Bars, restaurants, shows, men, women, jobs, apartments.

It is not long before Dad of the red headed boy on the floor - leaning on his elbow, and scroll through his BlackBerry. No one is ever here anymore. All are in a game of chess - always two steps ahead - Samples to predict the future. Predict your opponents actions. Make all the right moves - wins the game. We never really learned the art of losing.

Another couple who make their home in my quad. Middle-aged and wealthy - they find their fortune on top of a cashmere throw and drinking red wine. They wear uniforms: khaki pants and matching white polo shirts. Get buzzed under the spring sun - your eyes escape any grief that does not have a financial solution. Like Kleenex for the soul - they take a big sip of vino and sit back on his elbows to the Sun their faces.

Crowds of school children wearing baseball field panic in shades of crimson, gold, navy and white, all proudly represent their Educational overpriced homes. Kids these days are struggling school brands of clothing theirs - a walking endorsement to go with their parents' education checks over $ 35k.

Trolleys parade around the park as a 64 box of Crayola crayons. Powerful, umbrella up, funky space age itself, overpriced them. A taste for everyone.

The wind blows and the trees, "snow" falls, the remains of dried flower petals. They create a white runner on the carpet of mulch.

Within half hour, the boy and his father rolling around the arms away from me. Clouds are moving faster as the wind picks up. I'm glad my extra layers.

A teenage girl skates slows down and turns to make sure she does not skate too fast for the older man who follows after her. She spins around as if to be monitored, if only of her audience of one, and almost loses balance. She adjusts and moves forward with a new-found need to prove his fitness. A group of hardcore skaters follow her, a lighthouse on wheels.

An overweight woman, dressed in spandex inappropriate, makes her home within 10 meters from me. She put on her fluorescent orange shmata and rolls up her tight black shirt under her breasts. She continues to go up her leggings for what I could only gather to be the "calf suns." As she rolls around on his back, rubbing her belly a little jiggly. The white meat seems so bright on the green grass. When I finally walk away, I could still see her as an X on a treasure map. The Jelly Belly Lady on the Great Lawn.
