If you wish to get the baby active in fitness, the way to do it by being active themselves. The more a family participates in the group walking, cycling, or other fitness activities as a unit, the more a child comes to see that behavior and would like to model it. For a growing, developing, family, group fitness excursions are an important part of an overall healthy lifestyle.
Children watch how their parents feel about fitness, and because they absorb everything, they will notice it. So, for example, can a mother take her children to soccer practice, and instead of sitting download or just watch, she may decide to jog around the field while the kids practice. I've seen this happen. And the message that sends activity to the child is that fitness is important. You as a parent, is to tell the child that while he is playing football, you should use the time to physical activity itself rather than just sitting there watching. You show them and tell them that to develop your own fitness facilities are also important. And while they may not be 100% grasp that concept right now, they absorb it and that will come to play later in life.

Parents can slow down a little to go on the child's pace, but the point is this is a group activity. So the whole family is out, has fun, bonding, and fit at the same time. That is what family fitness is really about.
Whether you are canoeing or kayaking, or other physical activity, should these things be to assist with the development process and help your child grow into a healthy human. As always, positive reinforcement in the form of praise is also helpful, since kids are only to desire to continue these activities while they are still fun.
