Flying with a 20-month-old, stroller, seat and general advice?
I travel from Boston to Bermuda in May with what will be a 20 months old. I wonder if it is a good idea to bring a stroller to navigate the airport or if it would only be an unnecessary inconvenience. My son has his own seat on the plane, I have to bring their car space also? I have nightmares about having to tow the carriage seat, diaper bags and packages through customs when I get there, some general advice to make the trip easier? It's a family trip so I will have no helpers.
Ask the airline about the car seat. Probably they can lend you one if necessary. Also the airline seats usually families with small children before the other passengers, asking if they want to do this for you. Call them before the departure date to find out what facilities they can offer. Ask for bulkhead seats. You are much more comfortable, and the little one can cruise back and forth. It is better to call the airline in advance to ensure that you get this space before someone else does. Try to consolidate the carry-on with the diaper bag. Make sure you have lots of plastic bags for contaminated clothing, used diapers, etc. If any of you use drugs, put one set in your luggage and keep a duplicate set of your plane. I found an umbrella-type folding pram very useful in order to negotiate airports - you often have to go far from the terminal to the boarding lounge and onto the plane. Other passengers are often very useful. I used to fly around a third of the way around the world with a nine-year-old and two babies, and found that the nice people helped wherever I went.
